Tributes for this Special Edition (in memoriam)

Alberto Francesco Alesina (29/04/1957 - 23/05/2020)

The first Special Edition of Cadernos de Finanças Públicas Magazine, in 2020, has the honor of honoring one of the great contemporary economists, Alberto Alesina, recently deceased. Born in Italy and based at Harvard University, in recent years he was a recurring name on the list of candidates for the Nobel Prize in Economics. Considered in academic circles as the “father of austerity”, he stood out in investigations of the economic-political cycles and in formulations in the field of political economy. On November 28, 2019, the National Treasury had a prestigious lecture by Professor Alesina at the award ceremony of the 24th National Treasury Award. In addition to the exhibition, he now offers us an unpublished article, especially written for the National Treasury on the Brazilian fiscal reality. Most likely, the last of his glorious career. We therefore register our regret at the priceless loss, dedicating to him this special edition of the magazine Cadernos de Finanças Públicas, as a simple tribute to the memory of the great professor, economist and researcher in public finance.

Jailison Weilly Silveira, Jajá (14/08/1988 - 05/21/2020)

This edition is also dedicated to another brilliant economist. This, a little younger, a little less famous, but also a force of nature. Jajá, as he was known, combined talent, assertiveness and sensitivity as few in economic research, in the fields of macroeconomics and quantitative methods. In his brief career, he achieved the recognition of his peers and ascended to prominent positions in the design and management of public finances in the institutions where he passed. He, who left us so early, leaves a great void in the institution and misses many of the colleagues of the National Treasury.

Special Edition 2020.1 (National Treasury Award 2019)

In this edition of the magazine, you will find the winning monographs of the XXIV National Treasury Award 2019, one of the most traditional contests for academic articles in public finance in the country.
